Diary of a writing project. Day 66-67: Enough with the social media noise

Work count goal this week: 55 000 words

Day 66 – 3:40 am
Word count so far: 39 585 words

Kiddo woke up at 3:40am. That’s right.

Kiddo did not fall back asleep. That’s rrriiight.

oh dear…

To kiddo’s defense, a noise is to blame. What noise? 16 hours later, I still have no idea.

I was eager to go back to my current writing project tonight. I like the characters more and more, especially since the Main Character gets more and more complicated.
Main Character is going through a big transition. Her whole universe was the soccer team and the Prom Committee (in my public High School, there were such a thing as comité des Finissants).
She was a star. Now, her fame is slowly fading away, her worst fears are slowly taking form. Plus, a devious ghost is after her, requesting her help in order to rest in peace.
She refuses since she does not give in in face of intimidation (she rather avoid it by being, not a bully herself, but passive witness on the side of the bullies).
And the ghost is grossing her out.

It’s so much fun to talk about that kind of things, right? Or maybe I’m just a weird writer on a quest.

Until next time!

Day 67 – Enough with the Social Media noise
Word count so far: 39 786 words

I write as often as I can.

I do my best to brainstorm ahead of time, to stay focus when writing.

Sometimes, I use writing tips and writing hacks, such as writing sprints or brainstorms walks.

Always now, I set realistic (or close enough!) writing goals, word count goals, living by my pen goals.

I work hard. I feel proud. And THEN, because I know it’s crucial to do so if I want to earn a living with selling my novels, I join the conversation with the writing community on social media.

But there’s so. much. noise on those social platforms.

So much so in fact, I’ve decided to delete all my accounts, except Twitter. And I’ll cut back on the twitter-verse for a while.

Enough with the noise. Enough with the electronics vampires, all sucking real life out of me while reaching for something: money, attention, time, time, more time.
My Life Time!

Will I work more, land more contracts, write more, or better yet, write faster, having deleted easy distractions from my life?

I don’t know. Maybe…

Maybe I’ll just play with kiddo more. Read more novels, cook something that takes more than twenty minutes to put on the table. Things like that.

Doesn’t matter. I have more time now!

Dear writer friends, thanks for reading. Until next time.

Diary of a writing project. Day 64-65: Mama, where the novel ideas come from?

This week word count goal: 55 000 words

Day 64 – New world, new novel ideas
Word count so far: 38 635 words

It was supposed to be a great writing day. Yes, day.

I had a short meeting and then, 4 hours to myself before picking up kiddo.

Of course, the short meeting turned out to take more time, as my client and I brainstormed away many blog posts ideas and newsletter content. I do have fun with the « how on earth will I be able to make this rather complicated notion understandable » stage with a new client, a new world to explore and to get novel ideas from.

Diary of a writing project. Day 62-63: Two writing tips put to the test

Word count goal this week: 55 000 words

Day 62
Word count goal so far: 36 289 words

I getting back on track, sort of, with the manuscript.

I’m almost ready to give up on my self-imposed deadline, but I’m afraid of what the consequences could be, both for my quivering will and my determined laziness.

Still, just to be out of the writing wroth I’ve been experiencing the past few weeks is utter bliss.

I used a Writing Tip I’ve always looked down upon before: writing in non-chronological order.

It works in this case because it’s a very linear story. At first, I outlined a ton of flaws-backs, but that was when the story was leaning more on the spooky side. Now, it’s more funny and light, more spooky cozy. No big tangled mystery. Just plain old fantasy-fantastique.
Therefore, it’s easier to jump around without feeling dizzy.

I really don’t know if I’m gonna use that tip/trick again, but for this project, it works well.

Day 63
Word count goal so far: 37 551 words

The famous writing sprint is a writing tip I always fail at, kind of.

I’m not a fast writer, as you may know by now if you’ve been kind enough to tag along is this crazy writer quest.
Even when I’m sprint writing, the results are rarely outstanding.

Best exemple would be today, where I sprint write for two hours in the morning (working from a home is awesome).
I ended up with a little more than 700 words. Better then all the writing session from last week combined, but a unimpressive word count nevertheless.

Worst thing is I really though I was over 1k words!

Anyway, I pushed through tonight and at long last, I almost reached my daily writing goal of 1 400 words. A first in many, many writing days.

I shall try the Writing sprint tomorrow again though. It’s good.
For one thing, it helps me focus solely on the characters and the story and the writing. It’s easier to find the good words when my attention is totally dedicated on writing.

Dear, dear writer friends, until next time !
