By chasing many rabbits at the same time, you catch none. Or something like that.
Same goes for working at multiple writing projects. By doing little everywhere, it’s hard to see progress on anything.
It’s then easy to get discouraged. Or start to feel overwhelmed.
How to manage multiple projects is quite simple: be discipline, schedule writing time, leave the new ideas alone in a notebook, keep writing and, the most important thing of all… the « don’t give up » one!
Easier said than done.
Don’t let life interfere with your writing… easier said than done, writer mom!
« Don’t let life interfere with your writing », It’s an actual thing, written on the virtual pages of the great Writers Helping Writer®.
That statement made me wonder.
In essence, here’s what author Collen M. Story says: despite what life throws at you, keep writing.
Don’t let life interfere.
What I understand from that statement is this: don’t use day to day life things to get in the way of writing.
More importantly, don’t use the real-life many struggles become excuses for you to stop writing.
Yeah, I know how easy it is to do, making excuse. For more than a decade, I let the small things get in the way of writing. I made excuses after excuses.
I’ve decided two years ago to stop making excuses and learned how to believe in myself and in my writing goals.
That being said, not letting life interfere with writing is dang hard when you’re a parent of young children.
Very good example, as I’m trying to gather my thoughts and finish this blog post, my kiddo is having a very bad morning (which one is bound to get when waking up at 4:45 am instead of 6 am). Yellings, whining and other « ings » are being thrown everywhere.
It’s so frustrating. It’s so infuriating. It’s so… life-like !
Dealing with multiple writing projects
I settled for very modest writing goals at the beginning of 2020.
Since January 1st though, things have changed.
I will start writing a romantic comedy novel for adults in March, under a different pen name since I want to…. go indie publishing with this one!
Self-publishing is a big, big task to undertake. For a book to be noticed within the many, many, many book releases, one independent author needs to work at it Hard. Translation: have a kick-ass marketing plan.
And doing that takes loads of time.
Why did I choose to self-publish? Because I have the support of my hubby-to-be, because my freelance business is not going so well, because, well, I’m on a crazy quest to live by my pen, as they say!
Scheduling writing sessions to work on the different projects and (insert singing voice here) sticking to it (end singing voice here) is how I deal with those multiples writing projects.
I am very, very lucky to be able to tackle this dream full-time, minus a few hours of work-from-home day job stuff.
In other words: ready, steady, write !!!
